Under My Wing, Inc is a 501(c) 3 Nonprofit Organization established in 2015 that serves middle, high, and early college year girls of color in the Greater Milwaukee Area. Our Mission is to Foster safe spaces to educate and cultivate character, and confidence and build meaningful connections through mentorship, and community development.
Our Vision is to create future mentors building a healthy culture of confident young ladies who are aware of self, community, and the power of giving back. We use social-emotional programming, arts + media, and leadership building to empower our youth!

meet the founder
Lea V Hortman was born and raised in the city of Milwaukee, WI, where the themes of poverty, violence, and low self-esteem greet the doorsteps of little black girls daily. As an overcomer test assured with a global mission to impact girl + women-centered spaces. Lea stands tall as a Black Girl Educator, Inspirational Leader, and your favorite mentor!
She has dedicated her journey to helping girls and women of color reflect, heal, and grow through purposeful development! Lea specializes in social-emotional program development, design + transformative facilitation.
With a Bachelor of Science in Social Work completed, alongside 10 years + serving girls and women, Lea’s work continues to emerge as she completes her Masters in Social Work, to deepen and expand her mission to empower girls and women of color. When Lea is not serving she’s cooking, creating, and thrifting to practice joy!

"Restore Weekend offers a two-day wellness journey of healing and empowerment for girls and women, providing a safe space for transformative experiences. Through educational + empowering workshops, we guide participants toward emotional restoration, personal growth, and fostering resilience for them to be better leaders.
This is our first event that we’re invited girls and women of all ages. Stand in agreement that this will be purposeful. and successful. We’re excited!
